We aim to cover pattern making and the sewing introduction this week.  If you have your own machine which you want to familiarise yourself with – please bring it along – and we’ll work out a way to manage the space!  The sewing introduction will include : threading your machine and filling a bobbin, sewing fabric  and seaming –  if you wish to practice on a particular fabric, please bring with you.  Demo’s may  include : overlocking, hemming, pockets, zips, setting in a sleeve, lining, buttons and button holing and hand finishing .

Our aim is to try and tailor our approach to your individual requirements – but remember there are only 5 weeks and we want beautiful finished dresses – so if you can bring your toile or final fabric this week the faster we can progress to pattern cutting! If in any doubt about how much fabric to buy post the width on the blog and we’ll let you know.

Inspiration Board from previous Workshop

This initial workshop will work towards developing an individual design brief for your ‘dress’ based on our unique pattern block; we will cover  developing a personal look, an introduction to fabrics, texture and colour palettes and sizing.  If you can bring along a sketch or notebook and five favourite objects – these can be garments, images, objects, technology or media – old or new – whatever you love! and magazines you don’t mind ripping up (we will also provide magazines/imagery) …

LUXURY of LABOUR™:   Dress-Making Workshop

Due to the success of the last ‘Luxury of Labour’ workshops we are running a further series of five workshops designed to celebrate the art of dress-making. Create, cut and make – your own individual dress design from our pattern block. The workshop is suitable for all levels – no experience is required.

Dates: Sundays: 28th February – 28th March

Time: 2-5 pm

Cost: £110 for the series of five workshops.

The course will introduce all aspects of fashion design through to dress making including:

• Developing your personal ‘mood board’
• Introduction to fabrics and colour palettes
• Pattern cutting and sample making
• Sewing techniques
• Fabric selection
• Dress-making and finishing

'Luxury of Labour': Workshop

We will be holding a follow up day on Sunday 1st November at Che Camille; 11.30 – 5.30. You can come for the entire day or drop in whichever suits you. This is a perfect opportunity to either complete your dress or start a new project! The cost is £20 per person and Roz will be on-hand for specialist advice. If you have finished your dress please feel free to pop in and show us as it would be great to get some photographs of the final garments.

Those of you who brought sewing machines last week - if you could bring them again – this should keep everybody sewing!

Also, I would really like to document the process to post on the blog as you have all created fabulous work; if you could bring your 5 loved objects and mood boards with you as well that would be fantastic – there wil be a photographer at the workshop, so we don’t lose any precious time finishing the dresses!
